2 Policemen Killed in Manila Ambush

MANILA —
Two Philippine policemen were killed and another wounded Thursday when suspected Communist assassins ambushed a police car on a street in central Manila, a police spokesman said.
He said the policemen had stopped their car to make a telephone call near a university when they were attacked by a group of unidentified gunmen believed to be members of a Communist “sparrow” hit squad, so named for its swift attacks. Such squads killed more than 100 policemen and soldiers in metropolitan Manila last year.
