Controversy Over Oil Drilling in the Pacific Palisades
- Share via
Once again Councilman Marvin Braude and his associates have been defeated in trying to stop Occidental from drilling for oil beneath the cliffs at Pacific Palisades (Metro, Feb. 23).
A sad and disturbing aspect of the case is that the great and well known “humanitarian” Armand Hammer, who, in all the publicity given to his art collection and worldwide deeds of social and humane services, is proud to be always quoted as being “chairman of Occidental Petroleum,” yet has shown no conscience when his company sets out to exploit the fragile coastline of California.
Is it naive of me to suggest he should be taken to task for this, and asked to make a public statement concerning his “humanitarian” views on the subject?
