Hart Challenge to Ferguson

Re “Hart Challenging Ferguson Despite GOP Recall Warning” (March 10):

City Councilwoman Evelyn Hart of Newport Beach is to be commended for challenging the GOP leadership and filing as a candidate for Gil Ferguson’s Assembly seat (in the 70th District).

Competition will give the constituency better representation. As a Republican I resent the audacity of Tom Fuentes that he alone will decide which candidate will run, all due to finances. Of course, he says other leaders and elected officials agree with him about Hart. Well, naturally, they need to agree if they want financial support from the Grand Old Party.

I am also grateful to you for reporting the strong-arm tactics against Hart.

Hart is entitled to run for an Assembly seat. It is time we voters realize we will only be entitled to a true choice if we end the power of the party money bosses--or do we want a constitutional monarchy with unchallenged incumbents controlled by the strings of the puppeteer with the campaign funds?
