An old print that has adorned a wall in a painter’s cottage for decades in Anloo, the Netherlands, is a genuine Rembrandt etching worth about $53,500, an art expert said Monday. The 1626 print, titled “Jesus’ Circumcision in the Temple,” is the fifth known copy of the etching, said Theo Lorentzius, who examined the artwork. Owner Evert Musch said he didn’t recall how much he paid when he purchased it 40 years ago from an art dealer in Groningen, a city 16 miles north of his village in the northeastern Netherlands. Two weeks ago, Musch showed his print on a Dutch TV show about privately owned art, and the station brought in Lorentzius for his opinion. Musch said he planned to keep the print. “It’s far too beautiful to sell,” he added.
