Newport Electronics lost $82,000 for its fiscal fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, contrasted with a profit of $92,000 in the year-earlier quarter. The Santa Ana-based electronics manufacturer said its sales for the latest period declined 22% to $3 million.

Because of a reporting error, an item in Tuesday’s Business section contained incorrect earnings and sales figures for Newport Electronics. The Santa Ana firm reported net income of $92,000 for the fourth quarter of 1987, contrasted with a loss of $82,000 a year earlier. Fourth-quarter sales were $3.9 million, up from $3 million in the fourth quarter of 1986.
