Sikh militants killed at least 11 people in attacks in India’s northern Punjab state in continuing separatist violence. In New Delhi, more than 1,000 Sikhs, who were protesting the continued detention of hundreds of their countrymen, were arrested for defying a ban on public meetings, police said. The Punjab killings included an attack by Sikh gunmen in which six members of one family where killed and two others were wounded. Near the Sikh holy city of Amritsar, a couple and their son were killed in what police said was in retaliation for anti-militant statements by family members.
