Negotiations to reunite South Korea’s bitterly divided opposition collapsed again, with both sides refusing to compromise over sharing power and party posts. Both sides agreed that there is no hope of uniting the two parties before National Assembly elections next month. Before last December’s presidential election, rivalry between opposition leaders Kim Young Sam and Kim Dae Jung led to the party split, thereby ensuring victory for government candidate Roh Tae Woo, who took office Feb. 25.
