Council Approves Fair to Give Tourists a Taste of Ventura

A proposed three-day food fair that is expected to attract 30,000 to 50,000 visitors annually was approved in concept this week by the Ventura City Council.

“A Taste of the Coast,” which city officials hope will debut this fall, will be probably be held in Camino Real Park and feature food samples from at least 25 restaurants in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.

Assistant City Manager Lauraine Brekke said that the fair would provide residents with another outdoor event, promote local restaurants and serve as a draw for tourists.

In addition, because Ventura will receive a percentage of total sales, revenues from the festival will help the city fund other events that are not always financially successful, Brekke said.
