SmithKline Beckman Corp. launched a $32-a-share tender offer for International Clinical Laboratories Inc., which already has accepted a bid from Corning Glass Works. SmithKline valued its offer for the clinical testing firm at $340 million, which includes the assumption of debt. SmithKline owns about 1% of ICL’s 7.6 million outstanding shares. In over-the-counter trading, ICL jumped $8 to close at $33.75 a share. ICL, based in Nashville, Tenn., announced earlier this month that it reached a definitive agreement to be acquired by Corning’s MetPath Inc. subsidiary for $26 a share, or about $260 million.
