Campeau Corp. told Federated Department Stores it won’t raise its $6.53-billion bid for the retailer and demanded the same consideration as rival suitor R. H. Macy & Co. In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Federated quoted Campeau as saying: “Campeau is not increasing its price. It believes its price is already too high. This does not mean that you can give Macy’s a chance to jigger its bid or take any other action with respect to Macy’s, without giving Campeau a fair opportunity to respond.”
