A Tustin Marine who faced life in prison after admitting that he tampered with gauges on a CH-53 Sea Stallion to prove that helicopters were unsafe will be discharged with a less-than-honorable discharge, but without a court-martial. Cpl. Kirk Hill, 24, crew chief of a Sea Stallion, admitted to superiors at the Tustin Marine Corps Air station that he switched connections on flight control gauges before an October flight to show that pilots were flying with unworkable gauges without telling other crew members or reporting them to maintenance.
