The Nation : Navy’s Trident Missile Program Praised

Share

The House Armed Services Committee gave a rare pat on the back to the Navy for its program to develop an advanced missile for the Trident submarine fleet. In what Chairman Les Aspin (D-Wis.) described as a “man-bites-dog” story, contrasted with other committee reports attacking military and contractor management of other major weapons systems, the lawmakers said the Navy’s program has a “sound, stable and disciplined” management. The missile, known as the D-5, is a follow-on replacement for the existing C-4 missile. It also is known as the Trident 2 and will be installed when the ninth 24-tube Trident submarine comes on line.
