Audi of America Inc. said a shift lock installed on Audi 5000S models with automatic transmissions has solved the problem of sudden acceleration on some cars. Audi, a unit of Volkswagen United States, made the statement in documents filed with the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration in Washington. The auto maker’s reputation was badly damaged by reports in recent years that the Audi 5000S would surge suddenly without warning to the driver even when the brakes were applied.
