Team NBC Announces Its Lineup for the Olympic Games at Seoul

NBC, during a press conference in New York beamed by satellite to 14 other cities, Wednesday announced its studio-host and broadcast assignments for this summer’s Olympic Games at Seoul, South Korea.

The Games will be held Sept. 17 through Oct. 2.

Bob Costas, as expected, will be the host of the late-night coverage, which will run, live, from 9:30 to 11:30 on the West Coast.

It was previously announced that Bryant Gumbel will be the host of the prime-time coverage, which will run from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m., PDT.

Hosts of the weekday morning coverage, 6 to 9, a delay of two hours, will be Jane Pauley, Jimmy Cefalo and Gayle Gardner.

Hosts of the Sunday morning coverage, 5 to 9, live, will be Cefalo and Maria Shriver.

Dick Enberg, as previously announced, will be the venue host, as well as the main announcer on gymnastics and the play-by-play announcer on the basketball semifinals and final.

“We will try to get Dick out to as many venues as possible,” said Michael Weisman, NBC Sports executive producer.

Tom Hammond will do play-by-play on the early-round basketball games. The analysts on all games will be Al McGuire on men’s games and Nancy Lieberman on women’s.

Other key assignments:

Boxing: Marv Albert and Ferdie Pacheco; cycling: Gary Gerould and Brian Drebber; diving: Charlie Jones, Greg Lewis and Steve McFarland; equestrian: Jim Simpson and Bill Steinkraus; gymnastics: Enberg, Bart Conner and Mary Lou Retton; swimming: Don Criqui and John Naber; tennis, Bud Collins and JoAnne Russell; track and field: Jones, Frank Shorter, Dwight Stones, Dave Sims (interviewer); volleyball: Bob Trumpy and Chris Marlowe, former Palisades High and San Diego State star; water polo: analyst Jim Kruse, former UC Irvine star who occasionally works for Prime Ticket (no other water-polo assignment was announced); wrestling: Russ Hellickson and Jeff Blatnick.
