POLITICS 88 : Panel Gives Candidates Additional $2.6 Million

The Federal Election Commission has given the presidential candidates another $2.6 million, bringing the total dispensed from the public Treasury for the 1988 campaign to $48.1 million.

As of Wednesday, former religious broadcaster Pat Robertson, who is trailing far behind Vice President George Bush in the Republican delegate race, remained the leader with nearly $8.5 million received. Bush has collected $7.4 million and Kansas Sen. Bob Dole, who dropped out of the race Tuesday, has received $7.1 million. Massachusetts Gov. Michael S. Dukakis was fourth, with $5.9 million.
