E.F. Hutton & Co. says it will plead guilty to up to three felony counts and pay a fine for money laundering at its Providence, R.I., branch. The company revealed details of a pending agreement with the Justice Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Rhode Island in a mandatory quarterly report to the Securities and Exchange Commission. Federal authorities have been investigating allegations that Hutton, which was acquired last year by Shearson Lehman Bros. Inc., failed to report cash transactions of more than $10,000 conducted by its Providence branch as required by law.
