Civil Rights Restoration Act

Share

Your editorial “Restoring Civil Rights” (March 23) is little more than a continuation of the ad hominem attacks against conservatives that have been the essence of the left wing’s contribution to political discourse in the 1980s. To suggest that those who opposed the Civil Rights Restoration Act were “ . . . Obviously opposed to equality under the law” is a deliberate canard that only serves to further erode your credibility.

For the record, let me state that my continuing opposition to the Civil Rights Restoration Act is based solely upon the potential for abuse that accompanies this legislation. I fully support the concept of equal rights under the law, but I am opposed to the concept of special rights based upon race, creed, color or sex. I have little confidence in the integrity or restraint of the self-appointed civil rights vigilantes. I am concerned that this legislation places into the hands of these vigilantes a new weapon to use in their continuing effort to impose their concept of morality on me and my family.
