Share

Two members of President Reagan’s Cabinet and four members of Congress have written letters of support for Lyn Nofziger to the judge who will sentence the former presidential aide for illegal lobbying. The letters from Energy Secretary John S. Herrington and Labor Secretary Ann Dore McLaughlin were among 62 from current and former government officials that were filed with a defense memo that urged that Nofziger serve a period of unsupervised probation. Letters also were sent by Sen. Chic Hecht (R-Nev.); Reps. Jack Kemp (R-N.Y.), Helen Delich Bentley (R-Md.) and Mervyn M. Dymally (D-Compton); ex-Sen. Paul Laxalt (R-Nev.) and former Health and Human Services Secretary Margaret M. Heckler, now ambassador to Ireland. Nofziger, 63, is scheduled to be sentenced Friday by U.S. District Judge Thomas A. Flannery.
