Power Fluctuates in 3 States; Plant Leaks Gas
A power fluctuation caused lights to flicker and dim Monday in Colorado, Wyoming and Montana, and was blamed for a “minor radioactive gas leak” at a Colorado plant, officials said.
Dennis Eyre, administration manager for the Western Systems Coordinating Council, said utility employees in the three states were working to discover the cause. He said power went completely out for a brief period in portions of Wyoming, but in most of the affected area power levels were only reduced.
Colorado officials said the fluctuation idled several power stations in their state and caused “a minor radioactive gas leak” at Ft. St. Vrain Nuclear Generating Station near Platteville.
