American Sign Language will be the primary language on a new Oprah Winfrey-style TV show for the hearing impaired that makes its debut Saturday in Rochester, N.Y. “Hey, Listen” is being broadcast for at least 13 weeks by Greater Rochester Cablevision, features a deaf host--Jacqueline Schertz--deaf and hearing panelists and a 50-person studio audience. Topics will include double-minority status of deaf women and AIDS in the deaf community. Although the show is produced primarily using sign language, an off-camera interpreter will simultaneously translate what is being signed.
