Beeba’s Creations, a contract clothing manufacturer based in San Diego, reported a sharp decrease in second-quarter profit on a 17% increase in revenue.
Beeba’s net income for the three months ended Feb. 29 was $148,669, down from $802,228 for the same quarter last year. Revenue was $25.2 million, up from $21.5 million for the year-ago period.
In a prepared statement, president Steven Wyandt blamed the loss on lower gross margins resulting from “a weak retail environment and confusion in the marketplace regarding fashion trends.” The recently ended quarter was also the first to reflect shipments by Beeba’s to a new J.C. Penney specialty retail line called Mixit.
For the first six months of the fiscal year, Beeba’s posted a loss of $306,002, compared with a profit of $1.2 million over the same two quarters last year. Revenue to date stands at $45.9 million, up from $39.4 million last year.
