A committee appointed last fall by Haiti’s then-military government to investigate violence that caused the cancellation of national elections said it has identified the assailants “collectively” but named no individuals, a radio station reported. More than 30 people were killed Nov. 29 as gangs of armed men rampaged through the streets of Port-au-Prince, causing elections to be halted. Radio Metropole said the committee’s report, which was not made public, criticized various government agencies, saying they had contributed to the collapse of order during the voting.
