* 1/2 “The College Success Video.” Twin Tower. $39.95.

While it’s true that gaining high grades in college often has as much to do with good study habits and test-taking skills as with innate intelligence, this video guide is simply too rudimentary to be worth the price. For instance, the information on preparing for tests (i.e., don’t cram) and on time management (making out a semester and weekly schedule) should already be basic knowledge to most students. The video doesn’t mention some of the little tricks, such as how to choose selectively from assigned readings, that many college students use to their advantage. Also, narrator David Becker defines success in very narrow terms. To some, success in college relates more to individual enlightenment than grade-point average. Information: (818) 761-0932.
