The Sisters Saga

In response to “A Tale of Two Sisters” (by Nikki Finke, March 30), I would like to say that I find the display of apathy by the neighbors sickening. What has the world come to when people can watch the demise of a family and do nothing? How can neighbors sit back and watch two elderly ladies, one with Alzheimer’s disease and the other an obvious victim of the strain from caring for one so sick? How can these people live with themselves?

I find it appalling that they sat back and said nothing until after tragedy had struck, and then they come forward and admit they have seen abuse taking place earlier--the audacity of these people to sit back and criticize when they themselves are just as guilty.

This attitude is one of the major problems of our time. People refuse to get involved and close themselves up in glass bubbles. They see what goes on, but they refuse to feel it. One phone call would have saved two lives from ruin, and not one person made the call for help.
