A 24,000-square-foot section of the AIDS quilt, in San Diego as part of a 20-city tour, will be unfurled in a ceremony at 7 p.m. today in Golden Hall.
The quilt is made up of a series of panels bearing the names of AIDS victims. The section that will be on display in Golden Hall contains 700 panels, and public officials and community leaders will read off the names during the ceremony.
The section of the quilt, which is the brainchild of the San Francisco-based Names Project, will be on display from 7 p.m. to midnight today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday. There is no admission charge.
The full quilt contains 3,800 panels and measures three football fields wide and long.
