Thailand is forming a new military unit to protect Cambodian refugees after complaints that a paramilitary task force has robbed, raped and killed refugees, a Thai officer said. Col. Sanan Kajornklam said the Displaced Persons Protection Unit will be operating on the Thai-Cambodian border by the end of June. He said international relief organizations and Western nations contributing to the Thai refugee relief effort have voiced concern about abuses by Task Force 80, which since 1980 has been in charge of security for a 250,000 Cambodians in border camps.
