Lonesome Soldier Sets Falklands Church Afire

PORT STANLEY, Falkland Islands —
A British soldier helping to defend the remote Falkland Islands set fire to a church on New Year’s Eve because he was missing his mother, his lawyer said today.
A court in the South Atlantic islands was told that 18-year-old Pvt. Andrew Harris was upset over his parents’ divorce and had not received replies to letters he wrote to his mother in England or received a Christmas present from her.
