The Reagan Administration has offered India 1.2 million metric tons of low-priced American wheat subsidized by the U.S. government. India is expected to act quickly on the U.S. subsidy offer and purchase the wheat for delivery to Indian ports within the next few weeks, grain industry sources said. A devastating drought last summer cut India’s rice, oil seed and feed grain crops and caused sharp reductions in reserve food stocks.
