Decriminalizing the Use of Drugs

Morse has taken a controversial stand in favor of decriminalization of drug use as a way of eliminating the gangsterism associated with illegal drug distribution and sales at artificially inflated prices. I anticipate that there will be a fanatical opposition to this idea.

But I agree with Morse, the drug user should be treated compassionately as a person with a potentially treatable disease. Medical treatments are available for drug dependency.

Incarcerate the drug user only when he commits a crime other than possessing or using a drug.
