Health Fair Expo to Offer Free Exams Through Next Sunday Across Westside

Health Fair Expo, which seeks to help individuals in the early detection of any health problems and to promote health awareness, will be held this month at various Westside locations. All sites will offer free tests for blood pressure, vision, glucose tolerance, skin cancer and foot problems. A blood chemistry/hematology test is available for $15. Information on cardiac health, breast cancer self-examination and AIDS will also be provided. Volunteer health care professionals will discuss test results with participants.

The fair is being sponsored by the American Red Cross, KNBC-Channel 4, Chevron USA and the Hospital Council of Southern California.

The Centinela Hospital Medical Center and the Westchester Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the Westchester Health Fair on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Westchester YMCA, 8015 S. Sepulveda Blvd. For more information, call (213) 645-5151.

The Medipace Medical Group is coordinating health fairs at Roxbury Recreation Center, 471 S. Roxbury Drive, Beverly Hills, on Monday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; at Fairfax Senior Center, 7929 Melrose Ave., on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and at Westwood Elementary School, 2050 Selby Ave., on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Roxbury will also offer dental exams. Fairfax and Westwood will offer kidney tests. Roxbury and Fairfax will offer pulmonary exams, and a chiropractor will be available at the Westwood location. For more information, call the Health Fair Hotline at 1-800-223-6759.

St. John’s Hospital’s health fair is planned for next Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church auditorium, 2011 Colorado Ave. A chiropractor and sports injury specialist will give free scoliosis exams and health evaluations. For more information, call (213) 458-1758.

Daniel Freeman Hospital, 4650 Lincoln Blvd., Marina del Rey, will hold its health fair next Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will include a tent devoted to sports medicine.

A poster contest for children ages 5 to 18 is being held in conjunction with the fair. In addition, blood donations will be taken, with each donor receiving two free tickets to the Los Angeles Clippers game at the Sports Arena that evening. Brotman Medical Center will have its health fairs at the Veteran’s Auditorium, 4117 Overland Ave., on Friday and at the Culver-Palms YMCA on Saturday. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center has scheduled its health fair for Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Ambulatory Care Center, 8701 Alden Drive. Exams for lung function and sickle cell anemia will be offered.
