Former Judge Brought In to Investigate Kentucky’s Athletic Programs

Allegations that a University of Kentucky basketball coach sent the father of Fairfax High star Chris Mills $1,000 in cash could lead to a major investigation of the school’s athletic programs, a former judge hired to look into the case says.

James Park, a former Kentucky Court of Appeal judge, said he was given open-ended authority to investigate university athletics and recruitment policies, according to Sunday’s Los Angeles Daily News.

“I’m not going to go in and shut my eyes to anything,” Park said. “(But) I don’t want to give the inference that there are a whole lot of things on my plate that I’m going out to look at.”

Park said university president David Roselle retained him to find out whether a package sent from assistant basketball coach Dwane Casey to Claud Mills contained $1,000 in cash.

He was also ordered to investigate whether the school is otherwise complying with NCAA rules, Park said.

Park, of Lexington, Ky., said he was hired by the association rather than the university, and will report his findings to association officials.
