Fairness in Media this week announced the onset of yet another campaign to oust CBS anchorman Dan Rather and force the network to end what the groups calls a “liberal bias.” Rather’s well-publicized Jan. 25 on-air clash with Vice President George Bush apparently drew the ire of the arch-conservative organization, which last year tried to get Rather fired for comments he made on the Iran-Contra investigation. The anti-Rather campaign got its latest push in letters, one from Rep. Philip Crane (R-Ill.), the other from Fairness in Media co-founder Jesse Helms, who wrote: “It’s no secret that liberal, left-wing activists dominate the three network TV news departments.” Wanted: $250,000 and 2 million signatures on a petition protesting the Rather-Bush episode.
