Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc.’s profit rose 85% to $12.9 million in the first quarter, up from $7.1 million from the year-ago period. Increased volume and efficiency as well as bottling company acquisitions completed in the second half of 1987 accounted for the gain, the Atlanta-based company said. The company was formed in 1986 from bottling operations owned by Coca-Cola Co. and continued to acquire and consolidate similar companies around the country.
