NWA Inc., whose Northwest Airlines has been hit by losses, the threat of a strike and a probe into its safety record, expects to show a growing deficit for its first quarter, its chief financial officer said. “We will lose more money (during the quarter) than we lost last year,” John Edwardson said in an interview. The carrier lost $35 million in the first quarter of 1987. Edwardson also said Northwest will follow United Airlines in changing its frequent flier program to reduce the liability presented by passengers holding large mileage credits. United has increased the number of frequent flier miles needed to earn unrestricted free tickets.
