Huntington Park : Perez Orders Vote Recount

Share

Raul R. Perez, a candidate for the Huntington Park City Council who lost by 21 votes, has requested a recount. He is required to pay for the recount, which will cost an estimated $1,200 to $1,500 and could be finished by Friday, City Clerk Marilyn Boyette said.

“Somehow the (vote counting) machine could have made a mistake,” Perez said. “So we just want to make sure of everything, that we don’t leave anything to chance.”

Perez finished third in a field of four candidates vying for two council seats. Councilman Thomas E. Jackson won reelection with 1,151 votes. Councilman Jack W. Parks was second with 1,061 votes to retain his seat. Perez had 1,040 votes, and candidate Raul Aragon had 783.

The council certified the election results Tuesday night. It also approved its annual reorganization, with Parks replacing Jackson in the largely ceremonial position of mayor.
