Local News in Brief : Renewed Charges Sought

Share

Prosecutors announced that they will ask a state appellate court to reconsider its dismissal of murder charges against two brothers and three reputed hired killers accused of fatally shooting the brothers’ parents in Brentwood in 1985.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Robert Kuhnert said prosecutors will seek a rehearing on the issue before the 2nd District Court of Appeal rather than appeal the dismissal directly to the state Supreme Court or simply refile the case.

The Court of Appeal last week dismissed the case against Neil Woodman, 44, Stewart Woodman, 38, and their three reputed accomplices, ruling that a Municipal Court judge had wrongly kept from defense attorneys the background of a key prosecution witness.

The Woodmans, both formerly of Hidden Hills, are accused of hiring three men to gun down their elderly parents in the garage of their condominium on Sept. 25, 1985, to collect on their mother’s $500,000 life insurance policy.
