West Hollywood : Traffic-Stopping Ideas Sought

Share

A traffic signal controller box as a work of art?

That’s the idea of the West Hollywood Fine Arts Advisory Board, which has sent out a call to artists for proposals to convert 11 new controller boxes on Fountain Avenue into “public art structures.”

The board has placed few restrictions on the artists’ proposals, except that they should be “pedestrian safe” and offer a theme that is “organic and environmental.”

“The project is intended to counter the effects of heavy concrete in the congested ‘urban village,’ ” said C. L. Bergson, director of the city Public Works Department.

The project will cost between $10,000 and $16,000, he said.
