Zola Budd Is Caught Between the Political Rock and Hard Place

Maybe I am missing the point, but it seems to me that what we have here is an incredibly gifted athlete being punished because she had the misfortune to be born in a country that has a repugnant way of looking at a particular segment of humanity.

Forget that she has experienced the break-up of her family, and for all purposes has no real place to call home. And that she was deceived, threatened and misunderstood at every turn, all at the age of 21.

The mind-boggling reality of Budd’s story is that an innocent person is being victimized because of the actions of a government to which she has no input.
