Snack-maker Granny Goose lost the first round of its court battle to force a change in the name and logo of a children’s clothing store called Grammy Goose. Sonoma County Superior Court Judge Lloyd von der Mehden said Granny Goose has failed to show that allowing Grammy Goose to keep its name would harm the larger company. He added that he doubts whether Granny Goose can win its case if it goes to trial. Granny Goose alleges business dilution because of the similarity in names and because the 750-square-foot store’s logo is a goose with a bonnet. Granny Goose’s logo is a cartoon goose that wears a bonnet and tennis shoes. Boutique owner Sandy Gotelli, of Petaluma, Calif., said it would cost more than $12,000 to change the name, sign, logo, letterhead and advertising of her year-old business.
