An end to the historic names of Mountain Bell, Northwestern Bell and Pacific Northwest Bell--local phone companies all--was announced by their Colorado parent , US West, which said the trio will be regrouped under a broader umbrella called US West Communications. The three units operate across company and state lines in 14 states. President Dick McCormick said the familiar bell symbol will be retained and appear with US West Communications, which will begin to appear on bills and customer correspondence in July. “We’ll continue to use the (old) names . . . for legal and regulatory purposes,” McCormick said, “but we’ll also being doing business as US West Communications.”
