U.S. District Judge Pamela Ann Rymer of Los Angeles is President Reagan’s nominee to fill the vacancy left on the U.S. 9th Circuit of Appeals by Judge Anthony M. Kennedy’s move to the U.S. Supreme Court, the White House formally announced Tuesday.

Rymer, 47, has served as a federal trial judge since 1983. A former antitrust lawyer in Los Angeles with strong Republican connections, Rymer must still be confirmed by the Senate. Congressional sources said Rymer had strong support from Sen. Pete Wilson (R-Calif.), who urged her selection over two male candidates for the appellate court position.
