The Moral Majority announced Wednesday that it will start up a new Atlanta-based cable network aimed at viewers with “traditional values.” The televangelical ministry’s president, Jerry Nims, said FamilyNet Broadcasting Inc. plans to develop and produce a 24-hour network, as well as individually syndicated shows, that will be offered without a fee to cable companies in exchange for advertising time. Former Moral Majority chief Jerry Falwell won’t take an active role in the network, Nims said, and insisted that the new network is not designed to replace “The PTL Club”--one-time home to Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker--which was dropped by many cable operators after the two were drummed out.
