Greyhound Corp. reported net income of $6.9 million for the first quarter, compared to $33.7 million in the year-ago period. The 1987 quarter included $27.9 million in income from discontinued operations and an extraordinary charge of $3 million reflecting premiums paid on early retirement of debt. The Phoenix-based firm, which in 1986 sold the bus operation for which it was best known, is the maker of Dial soap and Brillo soap pads, as well as the operator of a string of pizza restaurants and cruise ships. The company said most of its operating companies showed substantial improvements in profitability, including a 25% jump in the consumer products group and a 67% increase in its service group results.
