Share

By unanimous vote, the Gardena City Council has approved an environmental impact report for the Gardena Gateway Center, clearing the way for a final vote on the project on May 10.

The shopping center is proposed for 19 acres of former Caltrans property at Artesia Boulevard and Normandie Avenue, near the Harbor and Artesia freeways.

Residents of the Cassidy Tract Citizens Committee, which had expressed concerns about the project to council members in March, met with representatives of the Alexander Haagen Development Co. before the council meeting on Tuesday.

The residents, who live near Cassidy Street and Normandie Avenue, said afterward that they were assured that the company would build a 10-foot-high wall and take other measures to reduce the project’s impact on their area.
