Long Beach : 2 Also Try for Illinois Job
Two of the five finalists for the presidency of Cal State Long Beach are also being considered to head Illinois State University, according to officials at that campus in Normal, Ill.
Thomas P. Wallace, currently chancellor of Indiana-Purdue University in Ft. Wayne, and Curtis McCray, president of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, are among the five finalists for the top spot at Illinois State, said Richard Godfrey, director of institutional advancement at that 25,000-student campus.
Godfrey said that Wallace and McCray visited the Illinois State campus this week to meet with various members of the university administration and that a decision will be announced by the university’s Board of Regents on either May 19 or June 23. The university’s current president, Lloyd Watkins, is planning to leave his post this summer to return to teaching, Godfrey said.
Wallace and McCray are scheduled to visit CSULB next week as part of this university’s presidential selection process. California State University officials have said they expect to name a new president for the 35,000-student campus May 17.
