L. B. Area Council on Alcoholism to Bestow Awards at Fete Tuesday

The NCA-Long Beach Area Council on Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependencies will honor Dr. Joseph Pursch with a life member award at its annual Clarence J. Lewis awards luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Ramada Renaissance Hotel, 111 E. Ocean Blvd. Father Leo Booth will be the guest speaker.

Others to be honored are the Long Beach Police Department for instituting a variety of substance abuse awareness projects; New Beginnings of Lakewood for innovative treatment programs; KABC Channel 7 for Woman to Woman public service announcements; Long Beach City Councilman Ray Grabinski, special project award for the Substance Abuse and Gangs Task Force; the Long Beach Unified School District for instituting early recognition and prevention programs; the Long Beach Police Officers Assn. for formation of a peer counseling program; and the 1973 founding board. In addition, the recipient of the 1988 Clarence J. Lewis award will be announced.
