Local News in Brief : Youth to Be Tried as Adult

Share

A judge ruled Wednesday that a 16-year-old gang member can be prosecuted as an adult in the killing of one person and the wounding of 10 others in one of the city’s worst drive-by shootings.

Juvenile Court Judge Donald Pitts granted prosecutors’ request that Faitdon Gipson be tried as an adult on one count each of murder, attempted murder and conspiracy and nine counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

The charges stem from a Good Friday shooting in South-Central Los Angeles in which gang member Stacey Childress, 19, was killed and a 5-year-old boy and nine other people were wounded. It was one of the worst drive-by shootings in city history.
