Chrysler Corp. will underwrite a $3.9-million grant to MacNeil/Lehrer Productions and WETA-TV in Washington for “Learning in America,” a five-part prime-time public-broadcasting series on the nation’s educational system--the car manufacturer’s first major commitment to public TV. Veteran news correspondent Roger Mudd will host the series, set to air in spring 1989. The show will examine the strengths and weaknesses of the nation’s current educational system and have a debate with educators on what form American schools should take as the country moves into the 21st Century.
