The Soviet Union’s Kirov Ballet will make its Washington debut as part of the Kennedy Center’s “Ballet in America” program for the 1988-89 season. Also appearing during the 10-month season of premieres are the San Francisco Ballet, the Joffrey Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, American Ballet Theatre, Martha Graham Dance Company and the Washington Ballet. The Kirov is scheduled for 12 performances from July 12 to Aug. 6, 1989. The Leningrad-based company will perform works from its classical repertory. The Dance Theatre of Harlem will tour the Soviet Union for five weeks, beginning Friday in Moscow, and is the only ballet company selected to represent the United States as part of a cultural exchange between the two nations.
