Local News in Brief : Laguna Beach : AIDS Discrimination Ordinance Is on Agenda

Share

The City Council is scheduled next week to review a proposed ordinance banning discrimination against people with AIDS.

The city’s AIDS education task force drafted the ordinance, which would be the first of its kind in Orange County, City Councilman Robert F. Gentry said. He added that there have been no specific incidents to precipitate the ordinance.

“Laguna Beach continues to be on the top of the list for the number of AIDS patients in Orange County, so we need to be the city that takes the strongest position with the disease,” Gentry said.

The ordinance would apply to people who have acquired immune deficiency syndrome, for those who have tested positive for carrying the AIDS antibody and for those with early symptoms of AIDS, Gentry said.
